Scroll down to read my interview with Cape Town based blogger, Candice Petersen aka Natalya Amour. She shares her love for beauty products, and even throws in a few fashion and lifestyle posts from time to time. She is also the proud mama to Lily the cutest pomeranian ever.
Needless to say, Candice is one of my favourite local bloggers and her posts usually make me spend money LoL…I am not complaining though:-) She is such a nice person and loves to help fellow bloggers by sharing her tips and tricks on what apps to use and how to make blogging easier. PS: She also takes the best photos ever!
Tell me a bit about yourself and your blog?
I am a makeup obsessed, animal lover and enjoy sharing my opinions on beauty products I’ve used. I live in the beautiful Cape Town. My blog is my space where I can be totally honest and also just a space where I have no limits.
What inspired you to start your blog, and when did you know it was something you wanted to do?
I actually worked for a beauty community, this is where I fell in love with the entire beauty community. For the first time I found something that I was so passionate about. 5 years later and it still gets me excited.
What made you choose the name Natalya Amour for your blog?
I have had the name Beauty Candy Loves for 4 years and decided I wanted to rebrand. I have always loved my second name which is Natalya and Amour just sounded super cool. I wish I could give you an amazing reason as to why I choose the name I just really liked how it rolled off the tongue.
Who takes the majority of your photos?
Me! I actually take all my blog photos with my IPhone 8Plus.
How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?
Running a blog is hard work! And sticking to a 4 post schedule a week is even harder. But, If you are committed and love what you do just making the time for it is important. I work on my blog every chance I get. Which does leave me with no social life, but I just love creating content. I also schedule things way in advance at least a week or two.
What makes you happy?
Just being with my family and being home creating new content. Simple things in life makes me one happy lady.
What is your current beauty routine, and name a few products you can’t live without?
I try to keep extremely simple, mainly because I am so busy with my full time job. I have been investing a lot in to skincare lately. I have been using Serum, Day Cream, Toner, Night Cream and Eye Cream these I use daily. For makeup quick and easy is what I strive for during the week as I have very limited time to do my makeup. Often I would have makeup free days or Foundation free days. Daily Makeup Routine usually consists of foundation, concealer, bronzer, highlighter, eyeshadow and mascara… Something I can slap on in 5 minutes. I won’t dare to leave the house without mascara and of course SPF day cream!
How would you describe your personal style?
I would say super simple. I am a jeans and t shirt kind of girl.
What are the first items you gravitate toward when shopping?
MAKEUP! I usually see what is new at Clicks or Dischem! I also find myself often at Mr Price and Pick n Pay clothing looking at what new clothing items I like.
When you are not blogging, what do you do to relax?
I love being at home, I am a total home body! My happy place is watching a chick flick or series and opening my favourite bottle of wine. Spending time with my little family too.
What is your favourite food and dessert?
PIZZA!!! I could live on PIZZA if I had a choice! For dessert a can’t pass up a good lemon meringue pie
What are you reading right now?
To be honest nothing! I have been stuck reading Fan Girl by Rainbow Rowell.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in the world of blogging?
Be you! The beauty blogging community has grown so much over the years and honestly it’s hard to stand out and also harder not to compare yourself to others. Believe me it’s so hard, but you won’t be happy. Learn to be you and not care what others think. Sometimes it feels like all the hard work doesn’t pay off but someday people will recognised the hard work you put into your blog so keep at it. Also YOUTUBE is your best friend. There were so many things I told myself because I knew nothing about blogging and how to maintain one. I just watched Youtube tutorials on the things I didn’t know.
