  • HOW MICROBLADING CHANGED MY LIFE

    The Entire Microblading Process Step-By-Step

My Microblading Experience & Procedure Explained From Beginning to End:
Are you Curious about the Microblading process? I have all the answers for you based on my personal experience. Microblading is an exciting and daunting experience. But don’t worry it’s not painful and totally worth it.
I am happy to give you a step-by-step walk through of the process, so you’ll know exactly what to expect before, during, and after your procedure.
Most importantly there is no down time required, and it takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows to heal and about one month for the colour to fully set in.
Let’s get started! When I went for my first consultation at the Maria Mulder Studio in Bothasig I was greeted by a bubbly Indonesian beauty named Maria. I had to complete a basic questionnaire and I was chatting to Maria while doing so. I asked her various questions and she made me feel super comfortable and set my mind at ease. I dragged my hubby along for moral support, well he was still my fiancé at the time.

I had photos of what I wanted my new eyebrows to look like, including colour, shape and thickness. Maria is very friendly and takes her time in answering all your questions before getting started. I love that she works with your current shape and enhances your natural brows. So no funny business and everyone will still recognise you when she is done with you LOL! My eyebrows were naturally far apart, and I never knew until she pointed it out to me. Maria suggested bringing them closer together like normal eyebrows should be LOL, and of course I was hesitant. She asked me to trust her and promised it would look amazing. Yikes! I was still scared but decided to go for it.

    THE CONSULTATION

Maria started off by sketching an outline of my new brows, and I got to look into the mirror to see if I was happy or not. After we agreed on a design all I had to do was lay back and relax.

So now we are good to go! and Maria applied a light, topical anaesthetic to numb my eyebrow area. We had to wait 20 minutes for the area to be numb before she could start working on it. It really helps and I hardly felt anything while she was busy. Maria chose the perfect pigment shade that matches my skin and hair colour perfectly.

    THE PROCEDURE

Okay, now we are all set to begin the actual Microblading process!
The microblading process began with Maria manually drawing an outline of the brow design we agreed on with a special microblading pen. She worked from the outside in, until the outline was completed. She then applied the pigment just below the epidermis, making fine and natural looking hair stokes. The process can take from one-and-a-half to three hours. The only thing that got to me was the sound I heard while the strokes were being made, however it was pain free. If you do feel anything please tell the technician immediately and she can apply more numbing cream to the area.

Viola! First microblading session done and dusted. Maria applied an antibacterial ointment to prevent bacteria or infection. After the procedure the area will be slightly tender, so don’t stress this is normal, and will only last for a few hours.
The microblading process cannot be finished in one session, and it’s recommended to go for your follow-up eight weeks after your first appointment to complete your brows.
Maria gave me a Vitamin A & D after care cream to take home, along with a detailed instruction sheet on how to properly care for my newly microbladed brows.

I love that Maria is accessible at any time after the treatment, because believe me you will have some questions during the healing process. I added her to WhatsApp and that made things so much easier.
While doing the Microblading I opted to have a Lash Lift for the first time too. Adventurous I know LOL!:-)

    THE HEALING PROCESS

I won’t lie to you! This period is very confusing. Even though you knew what was coming I don’t think you will ever be quite prepared for the scabbing especially if you have to go to the office daily and sit in meetings like I had to do.
Day 1: I absolutely love my new eyebrow shape, its perfect!
Day 2-4: My brows were super dark and thick, and my husband said they look like worms…ouch LOL! Your brows will actually get darker, but don’t worry they will definitely lighten up again.

Day 5-7: During these days your confidence is really tested. I was so self-conscious and did not want to make eye contact. Your brows may be flaking and scabbing off. You’re eyebrows will literally itch and you will be tempted to scratch, but don’t. Instead apply some Vitamin E & D cream and this will offer some relief. Don’t pick or remove the scabs because you may remove some of your pigment, and you don’t want to do this.

Day 8-10: Help! My brows are gone! It will appear like they are completely gone during this time, but don’t worry, I promise they are still there.  Another reason why the touch up session is so important too.
Days 14-28: At this stage I was quite used to things and made peace with the fact that in time I will have my dream brows. They were patchy and lighter in certain areas, but nothing the touch up can’t fix.

    THE TOUCH-UP

Eight weeks later I went for my touch up and I still had quite a bit of pigment left so that was great. This session lasted about an hour and Maria applied the same topical anaesthetic cream to numb the area. She filled in the gaps using the special microblading pen and my beautifully bold brows were back again. The healing process starts all over again but in my opinion it was a lot faster than the first time.

    CONCLUSION

Would I do it again? Hell yeah! I am going again in a year and half to touch up. By the way! Maria was right about bringing my eyebrows closer to each other. When I look at before photos I have no idea how I was walking around with those eyebrows LOL. Microblading has definitely changed my life, and Maria is an amazingly talented artist.
I loved it so much I even referred two of my friends to Maria. My friend on the left had almost No eyebrows and look how naturally and full her new brows look. My friend in the middle used to over pluck her brows and was left with just a thin strip. We are super happy with our new brows and will never go back to the way it was.
