  • Interview With Maria Mulder From Maria Mulder Permanent Make-Up & Microblading Studio

Scroll down to read our interview with Indonesian PMU and Microblading Studio Owner, Maria Mulder as she talks about her own beauty routine and services offered at her studio x

Tell me a bit about yourself and your business?

I am a proud mother of 2 beautiful children, and have been in Cape Town for just over 10 years now. I’m originally from Jakarta, Indonesia. Originally I worked in the Client Services field, but I decided to change to a career where I can spend more time with my kids. I’ve always loved art, and Permanent Make-Up seemed the right fit. I am glad that I became a Permanent Make-Up Artist as I now thoroughly enjoy it.
I work from a small home-based studio in the Northern Suburbs. I specialise in Permanent Make-Up and Microblading, Tattoo Removal but I’ve also expanded into lashes and brow tinting.

What inspired you to start a career in Permanent Makeup and Microblading, and when did you know it was what you wanted to do?

I’ve always enjoyed art and makeup and wanted to start a career where I can work from home, and then I got started with Permanent Make-up and Microblading and have never looked back.

What made you choose the business name you did?

I wanted to create a name that clients can trust, and as such I used my own name when naming my business.

What is the best part of your job, and what is the most challenging part?

The best part is seeing a happy client, especially where the procedure made a real difference.
The most challenging part can be where the client didnt follow the aftercare, and then require quite a bit of extra work at the touch-up stage. It’s always important to follow the right aftercare.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in your field?

Hard work and perserverance will pay off if you keep your head up. Also to continue studying further in the field that you have chosen, because with each step you will get better and learn new styles.

If you could pick one unique product or service offering, which would be your favourite, and why?

I would say that Microblading is my most popular offering, as it can really change your appearance. For someone with no eyebrows to patchy eyebrows, it can be a life-changing moment, and it makes me proud to see them smile afterwards.

What is your current beauty routine?

I use a combination of soaps and cremes from the Bodyshop. I like natural ingredients that cleans your skin and try to avoid any chemical ingredients. That way your skin looks healthy and natural for longer.
What beauty tips can you share with us?
It’s always best to protect your skin from the sun. Sun can age your skin quickly if you do not look after it.

What beauty products can you not live without?

UV skin protection, so keep my skin looking young and healthy.

Do you have any exciting plans for the future that you want customers to know about?

I am studying further with Phibrows Phi Academy to enhance my skills even more and shaded liner with Cherry Ink. And in June I will also be attending a Master Class with Sviatoslav Otchenash (Grand Master) in Shaded Stardust and magic Eyeliner and Lips.

What are your hobbies and what do you do to relax?

I like to spend time with my family, and watch my kids grow. With my business from home I can spend a lot more quality time with my kids, and husband. We enjoy going to the park, or going for a drive into the countryside.
Apart from that I also love travelling and seeing new places, and getting to know new people. I also spend some of my free time studying further to enhance my skills.

Any other comments or specials running at the moment?

I will be launching some exciting specials in May to signify my home-based business’ anniversary.
