  • Interview With Yasmine Sari from Chantique Health & Beauty Salon

Scroll down to read our interview with Indonesian Health & Beauty Salon Owner, Yasmin Sari as she talks about her own beauty routine and services offered at her salon x

Tell me a bit about yourself and your business?

I am 43 years old, Indonesian and have been living in Cape Town for about 10 years. My background was in banking, and I worked in that Industry for almost 9 years in my home city of Jakarta.
My husband brought me to the most beautiful city Cape Town in 2007.  And since then I decided that I didn’t want to work in corporate anymore.

What inspired you to start a career in beauty, and when did you know it was what you wanted to do?

I can’t exactly remember why I chose being a beauty therapist.  I just decided to study Health and Beauty and I completed a 2 year Diploma at Beauty Therapy Institute here in Cape Town. I worked for one year at a spa in the Southern Suburbs and decided to start my business thereafter.
I am very excited to introduce some Indonesian treatments in my salon as you will see on my website.
Luckily, I really enjoy what I am doing.  Something completely different from what my previous career was. Also the interaction with my clients has been amazing.

What does Chantique mean, and why did you choose that name for your business?

Chantique which in Indonesian “cantik” means Beautiful.

What is the best part of your job, and what is the most challenging part?

The best part of my job is when my client is very happy with the services I give. Not just the relaxing part but also giving my client useful information how to look after themselves especially on skincare regime.
The most challenging part is when I have to deal with a client with unrealistic expectations. But I always try to be as open and as honest as possible about the services or products I offer.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in your field?

Knowing that I come from the country where English is not our first language. Studying, speaking, interacting and learning the culture here was and still is my biggest lesson. But a positive attitude is the biggest thing that always kept me going. So my message to others, be positive, never stop and enjoy what you doing. Don’t forget to enjoy life too ?

If you could pick one unique product or service offering, which would be your favourite, and why?

I love doing facials. It’s so important for every one of us to have healthy skin and a healthy life. Because it will represent you for the rest of your life.
At the moment I enjoy doing Micro needling or Collagen Induction therapy so much. The result is amazing!

What is your current beauty routine?

I use Environ skincare for my beauty routine. I clean my face twice a day morning and Evening using the Sebuwash Cleanser.
For my day moisturiser I use Ultra Day cream and I mix it with Retinol1. And a night serum I use Avance DFP Peptide Serum as an anti-ageing treatment or C boost for my pigmentation.  Also revitalizing toner, never skip the benefit of using toner.
    SPF….always!!
Twice a week I use a Revival Masque as an anti-ageing treatment.
It depends on the season, in winter I will use products that offer more hydration.

What beauty tips can you share with us?

It is important to look after your skin from a young age. Cleansing, moisturizing, toning and SPF.
Vitamin D is good for you but too much time in the sun will damage your skin. So don’t 😉

What beauty products can you not live without?

    Moisturizer and lip balm

Do you have any exciting plans for the future that you want customers to know about?

I am planning to do a  “ Dermaplaning” course soon. Very excited!

What are your hobbies and what do you do to relax?

I love travelling and to relax I love reading or watching series on TV

Any other comments or specials running at the moment?

I do an introductory treatment for Micro Needling Collagen induction therapy for R750 and the treatment will include a follow up treatment 3 days after the needling, which is a mini facial with exfoliation
